Meet The Director
Catherine Helock is the founder of Hummingbird Therapy and Wellness with over 30 years experience. Catherine originally started her healthcare career as a Physical Therapy Assistant after obtaining an Associate of Science degree. Catherine later graduated as an Occupational Therapist from Florida International University (Miami, Florida USA) in 1986. After working in the USA for several years, Catherine migrated to Australia and settled on the Gold Coast.
Catherine has worked with clients across the lifespan and in many settings throughout her career, now with a focus on providing a service as a mobile community occupational therapist, working with those presenting with neurological conditions, dementia, aged care at home and in aged care facilities with an emphasis on wellness & prevention.
Catherine provides a high quality, evidence-based occupational therapy service with the aim of assisting clients in their recovery, and to assist them to remain safe and independent at home and in the community.
When Catherine isn't working, she enjoys spending time with her family, her two dogs and enjoys spending time outdoors.
Services
Hummingbird Therapy and Wellness believes in providing treatments that focus on optimising physical ability, regaining impaired function, preventing deterioration due to chronic disease processes, optimising each client’s home environment, facilitating psychological adaptation to impairments and encouraging social integration.

Some of the conditions that we treat in our practice involve clients that present with Strokes, Parkinson’s Disease, Functional Neurological Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Cancer Disorders, Arthritic Conditions, Orthopaedic Conditions, Dementia/ Alzheimer’s Disease but we manage any condition that impairs the client’s ability to return to meaningful everyday activities.

We are able to consult and provide recommendations for ongoing services following discharge from occupational therapy such as assistance with showers or domestic assistance and can work with home care providers to offer occupational therapy in the home as a means to review safety and optimise the client’s functional level so that they do not represent to hospital and are able to stay at home.

Hummingbird Therapy and Wellness provides an in-home evidence-based rehabilitation service to individuals living in the community. We provide quality care based on best practice and work closely with the client and family to provide a service that addresses their individual needs.

We believe in enabling others to become fully engaged in their health journey by providing knowledge and promoting increased control leading to greater health outcomes.
As a small healthcare business, it is at the heart of what we do to connect and give back to the community. We are able to offer voluntary community education sessions on a variety of topics once a month.
